Get The Lead All Out

Some people call it a "Victory Trip;" I called it our "Get-The-Lead-All-Out Trip." The heaviness that cancer brought us in 2019 needed to be stripped away! Graham felt that he needed to get back to work, but I disagreed. There's always time for work. What we needed is time to adventure together, a reminder of the rainbow after the storm. So we took off for two weeks to Breckenridge, CO and Morro Bay, CA.
Adventure, we did!

A few of my travel companions

Our son nerding out on airport Starbucks.

We had the privilege of stopping in to see Ryan and Tami's heart and soul project called FREE. It's a spiritual community for addicts and loved ones of addicts. It was wonderful to see the change they are creating in their community.

First sight of snow. They had to get out and touch it!

The Canadays ventured up to the mountains and we got to meet baby Brixton. Such a sweet baby! He has learned very early to go with the flow; he's got three siblings and a million cousins who constantly want to hold him.

Breck really took to his big cousin on this trip. He calls him "Easter."

Family hike. All 10 of us!

OMG, chipmunks!

Vacation is hot tubbing in the middle of the day with your cousins.

Grand Lodge on Peak 7. Our favorite.

Each morning, Graham and I enjoyed sunrise coffee on this balcony. Pure magic.

We went exploring in the forest out back one afternoon.

Bloody Mary happy hour (with ALL the olives!)

Alastair is moderately obsessed with South Park (Aunt Mary, have you something to do with this?) so he was beyond stoked to visit South Park, Colorado.

We bribed the kids to get up at 5am so we could drive up to Mount Sherman and hike around before the snow softens. Snow play in June was the highlight of the kids' week!

Lovers are Fighters!

I couldn't resist, it was so serene up there.

A panorama of snowy, mountainous beauty

Deer Poop lick challenge

The thing about these kids (and likely all humans) is that they are better, more adventurous, wondrous, happier, nicer people when they're exploring in the Great Outdoors. That's the goal: keep kids outside!

White water rafting is the most fun anyone can have on any body of water.

Contrary to the looks on some of our faces, everyone loved it!

Here's a close-up of Francis. She does not remember being overly scared or upset, but this pic was too raw/funny not to buy the photo package. A little fear out there is healthy. It was a wild ride!

When I grow up, I want to be a river guide.

We happened to catch our favorite festival of the year, The GoPro Mountain Games in Vail, CO.

I think this was my favorite day of the trip. In fact, it made me a little sad/nostalgic that we don't live there anymore.

Gymnastics everywhere she goes.

A little zipline over the river.

This boy was meant for mountain life!

We got a chance to meet the insanely talented Langhorne Slim. He was so sweet to Maisy and even mentioned her on stage.

And then he put on the most moving show!

My happy place is in a hammock with my babies.
Gosh, we love Colorado! This trip was a major sprit lifter and we accomplished the family time and adventure we sought. Until next time....

Alastair and I took a separate flight to California (next blog post) with an overnight stay in Phoenix.
